Sporadic timing jumps,RPM dip at idle

has anybody had an issue where rpm fluctuates about 40 rpm at idle up til about 3k-3500 rpm
it happens at idle and while under load in gear. i know its not a vacuum leak or bad sensor, not disa or maf related.
Ive just got new vanos seals delivered today (viton) since some threads i found on e46Fantatics listed many of the symptoms im having as bad vanos seals.
im getting some sporadic timing jumps (about 5 degrees at idle) that coordinate with the rpm dip. im going to replace the seals since they probably need it anyways but im not convinced thats the root cause so im hoping someone has either resolved these issues with new vanos seals or had the same problems and resolved them some other way (either tune or replacing another part)
any input would be appreciated!
EDIT:
I noticed this problem prior to my turbo conversion but it didnt feel as noticible, im thinking maybe the single mass flywheel hs eccentuated the problem. i know for certain i have no air leaks, fuel pressure is rock solid.

Can you post some details about your setup?
