MS45 failed flash + automatic transmission (EGS module)

We've had a few customers experience issues with flashing MS45 and have traced it back to the EGS module (automatic transmission ECU) interfering with the communication. Sometimes flashes are successful and sometimes they fail at different stages; it's never repeatable. Upon inspecting the log files in ByteTuner, it appears the DME simply refuses to respond to a request randomly during the flashing process. Unplugging the EGS module allows the DME to be flashed with no issues. We're currently experimenting with possible solutions that will allow the EGS module to remain plugged in and we'll report back once we've reached a conclusion. Until then, it's recommended for MS45 customers with automatic transmissions to unplug the EGS module before flashing the DME.

What are the symptoms for this? Is it not allowing the flash, or are there performance problems after the flash? Thanks

Yes, the flash fails before finishing. When it does fail, it fails at different places. However, sometimes (for short/partial flashes) it was successful. You'll know if the flash fails because it will be stuck in diagnostic mode (temperature gauge pegged hot). The logs showed that the DME simply refuses to respond to certain requests partway through the flash.

If the flash is successful, then there is nothing to worry about. There shouldn't be any performance issues if the flash was successful. If you notice any performance/driveability issues, then it's most likely related to the tune itself (calibration parameters).
